You may have seen that most ISPs offer both home (residential) internet and business internet. Business internet is typically much more expensive for the speed you get, but why is that? What do you really get for the price, and why are those features good for a business? There are actually a lot of differences with business internet compared to residential internet, especially when it comes to guaranteed speeds, and accountability for the internet service provider.

Hey now, I get the call center hate, but having worked one, that "troubleshooting you've already done" is because most customers don't do it. Hell, my experience working DirecTV taught me that most think "wireless" means "doesn't need electricity to run." Call center employees suck, but customers are just morons.
Having old copper but in area with not much internet users so i get 15/16mbit, and in some months i get a 200mbit fibre up in my house XD
Big problem…. If I am fine with the residential service, they do not allow me to get that at a business location even with a data cap.
Im lucky residental service 30 megabytes per second download
In my area, business accounts do not block off any ports (21, 80, 443).
We have a static ip with residential internet
In the UK they banned the term "Speed up to" term in ISP's advertisements and had to rewrite their plans, so you pretty much pay what you recieve. They made that into law sometime back in 2010 when people did checks to see which ISP were honest in their advertisements, and more than a dozen of them weren't delivering what they advertised and mis-using the terms "Speeds up to", so they fixed it, and pretty much you got cheaper fast Internet that's available for your area.
Data bandwidth caps need to go, they're stupid, and restrictive, and not needed in this day and age. Folks in the UK can get unlimited data, and a lot of areas got fibre these days so there's no need for data caps.
FCC steps in… ISP internal Memo What is a "Soft Cap" and how to advise customers.
I find most of the points wrong. I have a business line and residential line. My business is in a city and the upload speed is less than half what my connection is here in the sticks. It's with the same company. Business Internet is a 120 megs down 5 megs up. House connection is 120 megs down 12 mags up. The home connection is $54 a month. The business connection is a $154 a month.
I got Shaw 300 with 300 download speeds! And 10 upload. Got the promo offer $67 a month. Perfect for gaming (provided you use lan) on a fiber optic network with unlimited data!
I don't trust your videos anymore after that 10 minute long april fools day bullshit you pulled.
Thankfully the 'Best level of service' advertisements are now illeagal in the UK.
Many ISP's don't provide symmetrical service on residential plans and generally do on business plans. At home on cable I get 150Mbps down and only 10Mbps up and at work I get 200Mbps symmetrical on our business plan. Also business gets static IP addresses typically and dynamic for residential.
I have 300 up and down for wireless, and 120 for wired. I need an explination😂😂
we don’t have residential plan in brunei. Is it a good thing or a bad thing
My business plan is cheaper than the residential plan of the exact same service. But it was double the price before I talked them down.
what if an ISP ignores a formal complaint?
Talking to the cable guys in my area they said there is no way I would actually get a gigabit internet if I moved to a business plan and it was no different speed Wise. This makes me wonder what Comcast would say if I purchased it and complained.
Very good comparison video. Very well done.
Thank you. I always wanted to know.
